| | What Las Vegas's Talking About |
| 🚨 Smith’s Shooter Targeted Victims’ Home First | Police say the man who shot and killed his ex-wife and her new husband inside a Smith’s first went to the couple’s home, where he tore down a security camera, broke in through a sliding glass door, and ransacked the bedroom in an effort to find the couple. [KVVU] | - City Cast Las Vegas looks at why this shooting is hitting the community especially hard in the latest Friday news roundup, along with Nevada’s unique relationship with gas prices and a Las Vegas internship that no influencer would dare refuse. | | | 🪳 Pests We Need to Worry About in Vegas | Is it too soon to panic about the idea of hantavirus in Vegas? Hard yes. But a new report says Las Vegas is one of 10 cities most at risk for disease-spreading pests in the spring and summer. Our high temperatures can drive cockroaches, rodents, and scorpions indoors, so take precautions. Mosquitos are a problem too, but there’s been no detections of West Nile Virus this season. So far 🤞 [Las Vegas Sun] | | 🗳️ Nevada Voter Rolls Get a Spring Cleaning | Tomorrow marks one week until the start of early voting for the June 9 primary election Nevada’s Secretary of State says more than 119,000 voters have been designated as inactive (which means they don’t get an automatic mail ballot) and nearly 7,600 were canceled outright. It’s a routine part of the process to keep registration records accurate, but you can always visit VOTE.NV.gov to check the status of your registration. [KOLO] | - It's a big year for statewide and local races. [City Cast Las Vegas ✍️]
| | 🌎 A New Sphere Finds a Home | We hadn’t heard much lately on the first Sphere in the Middle East — maybe due to a war in the region 🤔 — but plans are moving forward in a big way. The UAE revealed its Sphere franchise will be built by 2029 on Yas Island, a tourist destination known for theme parks, including neighboring Seaworld Abu Dhabi. The 20,000-seat capacity will mirror the original Sphere in Vegas, compared to a smaller version in the works for National Harbor near Washington, D.C. [KSNV] |
