Your Daily Guide

🏁 Formula 1 is now taking applications for 600 race marshals during the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix, Nov. 19-21.

These are traditionally non-paid, volunteer positions, but hey — you get to see the race for free. (I think.)

And it’s probably gonna be around for a while. More below 👇

What Las Vegas's Talking About

🏎️ Like It or Not, Vegas Is Hooked on F1

The Clark County Commission will vote today on approving the existence of the Las Vegas Grand Prix through at least 2037. It’s an ambitious move, considering enthusiasm peaked with year one — but not a surprise since a giant paddock building was constructed for it. [LVSportsBiz]

  • City Cast Las Vegas has some thoughts on this during the latest Tuesday news roundup, which also includes a discussion on the rough winds and how well those all-inclusive hotel deals are doing. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🚧 New Vegas Loop Line Makes Progress

Elon Musk’s Boring Company, which continues to dig Tesla tunnels underneath our city, should have its new Vegas Loop extension done in time for — you guessed it — the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The University Center Loop will follow Paradise between the Convention Center and Tropicana with stops near Virgin Hotels, UNLV, and not quite, but almost close to the airport. 🍔 R.I.P. Heart Attack Grill

The Heart Attack Grill gasped its last breath after 15 years of Quadruple Bypass Burgers on Fremont Street. Time of death: 9 a.m. Monday, May 18. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🍼 Nevada’s Most Popular Baby Names

According to Social Security data, the most popular baby names in Nevada are Liam, Mateo, and Noah for the boys and Olivia, Mia, Emma for the girls. Considering my fascination with the r/tragedeigh subreddit, I’m happy just to see some normal, simple spellings here 👍 [Reno Gazette Journal/USA Today]

Where to See Outdoor Movies in Las Vegas

A crowd watches an outdoor movie screen.

Movies on The Green 🎥 (The District at Green Valley Ranch)

Las Vegas is entering those months when outdoor fun is better — and more tolerable — after dark. So it’s no surprise that the valley has a wide variety of outdoor movie experiences during spring and summer. Some are by the pool. A few are free. And no matter which flicks float your boat, it’s better than doomscrolling on the couch.

More Las Vegas Events

📚 Former City Cast Las Vegas host Sarah Lohman — who we still very much consider part of the family ♥️ — launched a Kickstarter campaign as she works to complete her book, “Ice Cream Land” 🍨 Despite the backing of a major publisher, there are still all sorts of expenses that come out of Sarah’s pocket as the author. So pitch in what you can, and enjoy a few perks when the book is released.
