Today's Big Picture

🛎️ Vegas Hotel Rooms Top a $1,000 Per Night

Hotel rates are skyrocketing on the Las Vegas Strip for the holiday weekend. If you have money to burn, the average rate at the Nobu hotel tower at Caesars Palace is nearly $1,700 a night. (Do you really care about resort fees at that point?) The Wynn is also exceeding $1,000 a night. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🎶 EDC Plans Jumbo-Sized Version Next Year

On the heels of a 30th anniversary celebration in Vegas, the Electric Daisy Carnival will expand to two consecutive weekends in 2027. Sure, you can choose one weekend over the other, but promoter Insomniac is promising a seamless 12-day day experience with additional themed events in between. [Electronic.Vegas]

🌡️ Roadside Attraction for Sale

The World’s Tallest Thermometer in Baker is up for sale — although no word on an asking price. The current owners are nearing retirement and say it’s actually more difficult than it appears to look after this thing, which stands 134 feet tall. [KSNV]

🚰 President Trump OKs New Water Pipeline

Don’t get too excited. It won’t bring any new water to the valley, but it’s important for transporting Lake Mead’s supply throughout new developments in Southern Nevada. The bill also expands the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. [KSNV]

  • Bickering continues over how to split the Colorado River, and now the Upper Basin states want $2 billion in federal funds to address “drought mitigation” — the same way Nevada and other Lower Basin states already do. [KLAS]

🛒 Smith’s Still Closed After Deadly Shooting

The Silverado Ranch Smith’s, where two married employees were shot and killed more than a week ago, will remain closed until May 27. New bodycam video shows the moments after the suspect was taken down and beaten at the hands of bystanders. [KVVU/KLAS]

More Las Vegas Events

🚦 As the Evel Knievel Experience prepares to open in the Arts District this summer, the daredevil’s fully restored, 63-foot-long Mack truck and trailer (also known as “Big Red”) will join a caravan of at least 200 motorcycles down the Strip at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
