Lombardo threatens state budget veto
May 19, 2023
Good morning! Here’s a nice nature-is-healing note to begin your Friday: The Peppermill will soon be open 24/7 again — at least on weekends. Late nights will be a bit more alive around here.

What's CITY Talking About?
Shutdown Looming?
It seems Gov. Joe Lombardo is ready to veto the state’s two-year, $48 billion budget if legislative Democrats don’t “address his priorities,” such as school choice and voter ID. Should the stalemate extend until July 1, Nevada’s government would effectively shut down. [Las Vegas Sun]

More Round Beef
Not that the Sphere needs any more negative publicity, but here it is: “Hundreds of ticket-holders in the premium, lower-level section” for U2’s shows will have their views of the big video screens partially blocked by an overhang. (The actual band will still be in plain sight.) Wait, this wasn’t addressed by one of the facility’s many cost overruns? [Review-Journal]
Teacher Suspended
Summoned to Cheyenne High School this week by reports of an animal locked in a car in the parking lot, school district police say they found something else in the car: a gun. Both reportely belong to teacher Chantel Brown, who’s been arrested and suspended. [KVVU]
Dept. of Credit Where It’s Due
In yesterday’s newsletter, I chided the Commercial Center music bash for fencing off some of the mall's merchants. Happily, that issue was resolved after press time, and the fences came down.
