Henderson cracks down on 'public camping'

June 9, 2023

Happy Friday to all who observe. This morning we have an end-of-the-week goulash of large-eyed extraterrestrials, political scandal, and fun weekend events. Help yourself!

What's CITY Talking About?

Add Them to the Visitor Count!

“They’re like 8 foot, 9 feet, 10 foot,” the 911 caller said. “They look like aliens to us. ... They have big eyes.” Wild, perhaps apocryphal, story just emerging of an April incident in which a local family claimed aliens were in their yard — after an object fell from the sky, an incident captured on police video. “I have butterflies, bro," one cop was heard to say. "Saw a shooting star, and now these people say there’s aliens in their backyard.” [KLAS]

Waiting Is the Hardest Part

Not Happy About ‘Campers’

No more homelessness — er, “public camping” — allowed in Henderson, thanks to a new ordinance that prohibits sleeping outdoors, setting up tents, or cooking on personal stoves. The city says it will try to find supportive services for homeless people before sending them away or arresting them. Public comment was divided almost evenly between those for and against.
