🦫 A guide to Clark County Wetlands Park
June 20, 2023
Good morning, friends. Where do NBA star Nikola Jokić and his team party after winning a championship? At Hakkasan Nightclub in Vegas, of course. Let's get into it.

What's CITY Talking About?
🦟 West Nile Virus-Positive Mosquitoes Detected in Southern Nevada
The Mosquito Disease Surveillance Program in Southern Nevada has found the first West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes of the season near Green Valley South. West Nile Virus, the primary mosquito-borne disease in the continental United States, is spread through mosquito bites and has no vaccines or medications for treatment. Although there have been no human cases of West Nile Virus reported in Clark County this year, the health district advises residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sources and protect themselves from mosquito bites. 🚌 Cooling Off at the Bus Stop
Great news for bus commuters: RTC is installing shade shelters to around 100 bus stops around Las Vegas to help combat the summer heat. Volunteers for the RTC took temperature and humidity readings from nearly 138,000 spots around the Valley to create the heat map that informed where the shade shelters will eventually be installed. 🚰 The Power to Stop Water
The passage of Assembly Bill 220 last week allows the Southern Nevada Water Authority to limit residential water use in Clark County, with the top 20% of users consuming about 45% of the water provided to residences. Although disappointed with the overall outcome (namely the failure to address over-pumped water basins), proponents of water conservation recognize the positive aspects, such as the establishment of a groundwater rights retirement program and funding for additional positions in the State Engineer's Office. Family-Friendly Summer Fun in Vegas
Yes, Vegas is known for its vices — and our gambling, smoking, drinking, clubs, and weed are exclusive to the 21+ crowd. But locals know that there’s plenty for the kids and teens to do. Co-host Vogue Robinson is joined by Las Vegas Weekly reporter Amber Sampson, who grew up here. Amber’s got all the insider tips on where to take the kiddos this summer — and where teens and 20-year-olds can (legally) go without their parents in tow.
One last thing! Since we were off yesterday, here’s the answer to last week’s Where Is It?

💬 Reader Alec Wade writes in to say:
“I see those steel silhouettes every weekend on my way to volunteer at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City, which listeners may be interested in knowing runs four to eight excursion trains on historic locomotives every Saturday and Sunday. They are also always looking for new volunteers, including anyone from volunteer car attendants to people who can work on diesel engines or paint locomotives.”
