🛋️ Vegas’ grown and sexy weed lounge

July 11, 2023

Hey, Vegas! City Cast editor Adrian González here, filling in for Scott today. Are you in need of puppy time? The Las Vegas Animal Foundation is looking for foster families to take shelter dogs on field trips. Oh, and today is 7/11, so go get yourself a free Slurpee. 🥤

What's CITY Talking About?

A ‘Grown and Sexy’ Weed Lounge

That’s how Chris La Porte, cannabis consultant and former owner of the Insert Coins bar downtown, describes the new cannabis lounge “Smoke and Mirrors.” The 1,200-square-foot venue is set to open in October and could become Nevada’s first state-regulated cannabis lounge. (Nevada Independent)

Nevada’s Proactive Approach to Making Arts Accessible

Broadway in the HOOD’s “The Legacy Theatre Project '' has received $1 million in state funding, making it the first Black-owned and -operated nonprofit in state history to receive such support. The funding is part of Nevada’s initiative to expand cultural programs and events, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or income, can engage with the arts. (Las Vegas Sun)

When the Cop Becomes the Robber

A Las Vegas police officer is set to stand trial for allegedly stealing nearly $165,000 in a series of casino heists. Prosecutors argue that Caleb Rogers, reportedly a gambling addict burdened by debt, committed three armed robberies over four months using a police-issued weapon. Rogers' defense attorney claims the evidence tying him to the robberies is weak and accuses law enforcement of pressuring witnesses to identify him. The trial, expected to last the week, involves witnesses such as casino employees and security guards. (ABC News)

An Insider’s Guide to Little Ethiopia

Last month, the Clark County Commission voted to officially designate the neighborhood around Flamingo and Decatur “Little Ethiopia,” creating the county’s first-ever cultural district. So today, we’ve got an insider’s guide to Little Ethiopia: Community member and educator Messeret Sertse takes co-host Vogue Robinson out for a grocery store tour, dinner at her favorite restaurant, and a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. Messeret talks about what this cultural district means for her and the next generation of young Ethiopians in Las Vegas, and how the community at large can appreciate Ethiopian culture here, too.

That’s all for today. If you need me, I’ll be incessantly looking at photos of The Sphere.
