🚨 Something new in the Tupac murder case?

July 19, 2023

Thanks for opening this newsletter on what I’m sure is a busy 🐫 day morning. Let’s get right to it.

What's CITY Talking About?

🚨 Tupac in the News?

Nearly 27 years after Tupac Shakur’s still-unsolved killing in Las Vegas, Metro detectives served a search warrant on a house in Henderson this week in connection with the case. They were reportedly looking for notes, documents, and photos related to a subject named Duane Davis, said to be related to a previous person of interest. Few other specifics were available at press time. [KLAS, Review-Journal]

⚕️ Promising Student

🌊 Water Fines

Water officials are cracking down on residential overuse — 60,000 people were fined between January and June, some more than once. And while some of the 11% drop in water use during that period was due to our cool, damp weather, the water district insists some of it did result from the fines — especially among higher users. 😥 More on Dogs Heat-Death Case

There are several registers of sadness in this story about the woman who left nine dogs and puppies in two vehicles for several hours amid extreme heat. (A dog and a puppy died.) Animal cruelty most prominently, but also precarity, eviction, and more. [KLAS]

Las Vegas Chatter

I recently asked where people could meet and make new friends. Got many good responses, too: volunteer work, Facebook groups, church, political organizations. Here are some of the more specific suggestions:

🎲 Ken Rubin: “I haven't been there yet, but Meepleville Board Game Café sure looks like a great place to meet new friends.”

🐕 April Zesbaugh: We have made new friends at our local dog park. Now we all meet at the same time every morning to chat and watch our dogs run around. Another great spot is at The Plaza hotel’s pickleball lessons on Saturday mornings.”

🥰 MP: “This may seem unlikely to many people, but we decided to go to a ‘lifestyle’ club last year on a whim — a euphemism for swinger clubs. We have made really good connections with over a dozen couples; some of them we regard as close friends. We go boating, head as a group to karaoke bars, hit the Fremont Street Experience, and attend pool parties all over the city. The sexual component is never forced upon us. We moved here a little over three years ago and knew no one. We now have a group of friends that we couldn't imagine finding through any other means, and we tried!”

🎳 Jenn Parisi: “We moved here in January from the East Coast and are avid bowlers. There are so many great bowling alleys in town, and leagues that range from fun to super competitive.”
