Mayor: Tesla tunnels meh but 👍 get my vote!
July 21, 2023
Welcome to Friday, Las Vegas. So a reader named Tracy is asking what there is to do in this town with kids in their late teen years — other than eat, of course. Let’s help Tracy out: 📧 What would you suggest?

What's CITY Talking About?
📰 Latest on Tupac
Among the dozens of items Metro cops removed from a Henderson home this week in its investigation of the 27-year-old Tupac Shakur murder were computers and tablets, bullet casings, and … marijuana? (Unless it’s three decades old, I wonder how that’s case-related.) The home belongs to the wife of Duane Keith Davis, whose long-dead nephew was a suspect in Shakur’s death. [Review-Journal]
- Throwback: Hear from the DJ who played the club Tupac was headed to that night. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

😐 Thrown for a Loop
Mayor Carolyn Goodman on the Vegas Loop: It’s “unsustainable,” she said this week as the City Council considered a request by The Boring Company to expand the project’s scope. “Impractical,” too. "I find it unsafe and inaccessible,” she added before voting for the expansion because casinos want it. [KSNV]

🗳️ Why Did the Pols Cross the Aisle?
During the Legislature, which lawmakers went against their party’s wishes most often? The possibly surprising answer? Republicans, including Scott Hammond, Carrie Buck, and Gregory Koenig, with Heidi Seevers Gansert topping the list with 47 votes that sided with Dems. [Nevada Independent]
😷 Facemask Policy, Animal-Style!
Nevada is one of several states in which the In-N-Out chain now prohibits employees from wearing face masks. [KVVU]

Street Vendors, Teacher Pay, and the Hot, Hot Heat
If it’s Friday, we gotta have a news roundup. The Nevada Current’s Michael Lyle joins co-hosts Vogue Robinson and Dayvid Figler to get into the new regs for street food vendors, how local teachers are pressing their case for better pay, and, of course, the heat, heat, HEAT! You’ll want to open a fresh pack of earbuds for this one!
Lastly today, a correction: The city of Las Vegas operates Floyd Lamb Park — not the state, as I had it in Thursday’s edition. Apologies for the error. See you Monday!
