🚱 How much water does Vegas need to conserve?

August 7, 2023

Good morning, Vegas! It looks like the Cardi B microphone throwing saga has come to an end, as the Clark County District Attorney’s office dropped the charges against her.

What's CITY Talking About?

A Dire Situation in the Colorado River

A new study by researchers at UCLA reveals the devastating impact of climate change on the Colorado River, leaving a void equivalent to the size of Lake Mead. The study highlights the urgent need for action as the river's water levels continue to plummet, posing severe threats to water supplies and ecosystems in the region. Experts say Nevada and all of the surrounding states need to cut water use significantly, but no one can agree on how. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)

HIV Task Force Disbanded

The Advisory Task Force on HIV Exposure Modernization has disbanded just three years after it was created to help modernize Nevada’s HIV laws. The task force has seen mixed results in their efforts to combat archaic legislation that at times criminalizes people with the virus. Members of the task force cited busy schedules, among other reasons, but say they will continue their work in other groups. (Nevada Current)

Brightline Bullet Train Gets Closer to Reality

The high speed rail project between Nevada and California cleared yet another regulatory hurdle last week, bringing it closer to breaking ground later this year. A report from the U.S. Federal Railroad Administration found that the rail would have “no significant impact” in the 49-mile stretch between Rancho Cucamonga, California and Victor Valley, which means Brightline can proceed without an environmental impact statement that is typically required with similar projects. Could Vegas Finally Get an NBA Team?

The wild success of this year’s NBA Summer League in Vegas, with sold-out seats and all eyes on rookie superstar Victor Wembanyama, is a sign of things to come, says Channel 3 main sports anchor Bryan Salmond. In the last few years, our city has welcomed the NHL, NFL, and the WNBA. So the question we all have is: Is the NBA next? What team would we get, and where would they even play? Bryan lets co-host Dayvid Figler in on his industry insider sources.

The end. Scott will be back in your inbox tomorrow morning! And I want to thank reader Brandy M. for pointing out a typo in Friday’s newsletter. The band that played at Red Dwarf yesterday is “Trash Animals,” not “Thrash Animals.” 🤘
