🚧 When will Las Vegas roadwork slow down?

August 15, 2023

Happy Tuesday, Las Vegas! Thanks for stopping by for a little news, sports, and, grr, traffic.

What's CITY Talking About?

🗳️ A Hail of Ballots!

Nevada’s GOP voters will have two chances to help pick the party’s presidential nominee: a February 6 primary election, and a February 8 caucus. The first is mandated by state law, the second will be overseen by the Republican party, which says it will ignore the primary results. Btw, here’s a nice primer on caucuses. [Review-Journal]

🧢 Game Recognizes Game

The Golden and Silver Knights have donated $10,000 to help defray the expenses of the Henderson Little League team that will begin playing in the Little League World Series on Wednesday. [KVVU]

🚈 <— There’s Actually an Emoji for Light Rail

In an attempt to get our hopes up for later dashing, the feds have given a bunch of money to the Regional Transportation Commission to study the possibility of implementing light rail and rapid busing on a 17-mile stretch of Charleston Boulevard. [Review-Journal]

⌨️ Hack the Deck

A digital security firm says a brand of automated card shufflers used by many casinos can be hacked. The convoluted process would apparently allow the hacker to use an internal camera to monitor the card flow and relay vital information to an accomplice at the table. It’s a longshot, of course — but fun to speculate about. Who doesn’t love (🎧) the moral implications of cutting-edge gambling tech? [Futurism]

💰💰💰 True Crime

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the city’s biggest-ever casino heist: a $3 million job involving a young woman, an older man — and a return to Las Vegas. It’s a wild ride, which co-host Dayvid Figler breaks down for co-host Vogue Robinson. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Reaching New Heist

The biggest casino heist Vegas has ever seen, totaling $3 million, is a wild true-crime tale involving a 21-year-old woman trained in firearms who disguised herself as an old lady, a much older co-conspirator and lover — and a change of heart. Co-host Dayvid Figler watched the Netflix documentary about this heist and breaks it all down for co-host Vogue Robinson.

That’s it for today. See you tomorrow!
