🐕 Sound off: Dogs in restaurants, yes or no?
August 17, 2023
Good morning! Please hold for an announcement. *Clears throat*
Hear ye, hear ye: We’re looking for a podcast host! It could be you. Are you contagiously curious? Into Vegas? A news junkie? A culture enthusiast? Are you — unlike me — comfortable with a mic all up in your business? If this sounds like you or someone you know …

What's CITY Talking About?
🧳 No Wonder the Traffic Sucks
Approximately 115 people move to Clark County every day — that’s according to new population estimates by UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research. That info dovetails with a new report that says this is the top destination among homeowners looking to move. Why? Their money goes farther here, or so they believe. [Review-Journal]
- If you’re one of this week’s 345 new arrivals, here’s your newbie starter pack: podcast episodes that (a) answer your dumb Vegas questions, (b) offer smart survival rules, and (c) give tips on buying a home. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
💸 How Many Pickleball Courts Could $223M Buy?
A new court ruling has added a staggering $141 million to the cost that city taxpayers will bear in the matter of the failed Badlands development. And that’s just one of four lawsuits related to the project; two have already gone against the city, for a total now of $223 million. [KTNV]
😣 Payback Waiting Game
During the economic freefall of COVID, Nevada’s unemployment system dished out a lot of money — $1.4 billion too much, in fact. (More than half was due to bureaucratic mistakes rather than fraud.) While the state tries to claw some of that money back from recipients, some 26,000 Nevadans are stuck in limbo as their appeals move through the glacial process. [Review-Journal]

Platefuls of Soul
