🍗 Your next fried-chicken obsession

August 24, 2023

Welcome to Thursday, Las Vegas. So we’re giving away two pairs of weekend passes to Life is Beautiful, selected from among people who use this form to subscribe to Hey Las Vegas. But Scott, you’re saying, I already subscribe. Right! So forward this to someone who doesn’t, and if they win, you’ve improved your chances of going as their plus-one. Clever!

What's CITY Talking About?

💬 No Hardball

Having now submitted a formal request to relocate his team to Las Vegas, Oakland A’s owner John Fisher consents to a long (and mostly gentle) Q&A in which he says the A’s lose tens of millions a year, denies purposely tanking this season to facilitate the move, and touts the planned Strip stadium. 🦇 Fetch the Bat Suit, Alfred

Eight people who stayed in New York-New York in April and allegedly found a live bat in their room — which was disposed of without a rabies test — are suing MGM International because they allegedly had to endure painful rabies treatments just to be sure. [KTNV]

☔ Storm Notes

Even before last night’s rains sloshed the Strip, Hurricane Hilary — which fizzled here — dumped near-record amounts of rain elsewhere in Nevada, trashing roads and apparently dialing back drought and wildfire conditions. Scientists say such storms may become more frequent as the oceans warm. [X, Nevada Independent]

🪣 Bucket Brigade

Speaking of heavy rains, Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson rained points on the Atlanta Dream this week — 53 of them, tying the league record, as Las Vegas went on to win 112-100. [KTNV]

Giving It the Ol’ Cottage Try

Cottage kitchen laws allow people to run certain food businesses from home, and that’s what Brett Boyer and his husband have been doing since 2018 with Desert Bread. With new seasonal items on the way, we’re bringing back this conversation between Brett and co-host Vogue Robinson about how cottage laws have changed the pastry biz.
