🏟️ Stadium foes swing for the fences

September 7, 2023

Here’s some quick fun to get your Thursday rolling: AI graphics depicting how Elvis, Sinatra, Sammy, Dino, Phyllis Diller, and other old-Vegas icons would look today. The sad part? Even dead they’ve aged better than I have.

What's CITY Talking About?

🏟️ Stadium Opponents Come Out Swinging

The pro-education group Schools Over Stadiums has filed a petition for a public referendum meant to repeal public funding for the Oakland A’s’ proposed stadium. The Legislature approved up to $380 million. [Review-Journal]

👍 Name Change

The word “paddock” has long meant an enclosed place where you keep horses — or, if you’re F1, race cars. And that’s what race organizers have been calling the event’s main structure. But in Las Vegas, “Paddock” has another, far more tragic resonance — it’s the surname of the Oct. 1 sniper. So F1 will change the name of its building. [KVVU]

😿 An Animal Mess

A new lawsuit brought by the animal rescue No Kill Las Vegas accuses the already-embattled Animal Foundation, the valley’s main government-funded shelter, of skirting spay and neuter laws. [Nevada Current]
