🎸 5 great places to enjoy local music

September 14, 2023

Good morning. If you’re mob-curious, this look at local sites of organized-crime significance might be fun. Sure, some entries won’t surprise you. But it’s worth a look just for the photo of the FBI plane floating in a water hazard at the Las Vegas Country Club.

What's CITY Talking About?

⚖️ Judge Backs District

What’s the difference between a “rolling sickout” and a strike? A judge’s ruling, apparently. On Wednesday judge Crystal Eller issued an injunction against the Clark County Education Association, the teachers union widely believed to be behind the staff call-outs that have closed several schools this week and last. The union denies involvement. [Review-Journal]

💻🐈‍⬛ Malware, Line 1

A post on X by a malware company claims that a Russian hacker group known as BlackCat is behind the massive computer fubar at MGM International. (BlackCat itself has not claimed responsibility.) Not-so-fun fact: The post claims the hackers breached MGM security with a single phone call. [Review-Journal]

🦌 High-Tech Huntin’

Las Vegan Bailey Thompson, 23, is one of three Nevada hunters convicted of using a drone to chase a buck off of private property so Thompson could kill it. But his problems didn’t end there: He lacked the proper tag to hunt the area, near the Utah line, where it happened. [KLAS]

Chow, Baby!

Hungry? On today’s podcast episode, we reprise a conversation between former host Vogue Robinson and hearty Vegas eater Brent Holmes, who together explore the history and highlights of the Las Vegas menu — and 17 enduring local restaurants. Something for every palate.

If we’ve learned anything today, maybe it’s just this: Rolling Sickouts would be a pretty decent band name. 🎸 (Air guitar emoji) See you tomorrow.
