Happy Thursday. Or should I say petty Thursday? Seems there’s another dumb-ass “survey” out, this one purporting to show that Nevadans are the nation’s second-pettiest citizens. Sure, there’s a hard knuckle of truth to it, as anyone who’s driven here longer than 30 seconds knows. But are we really second-worst in a country that includes both New York and Texas? You tell me! 👇

What's CITY Talking About?

🧬 Teen’s Wire Death Probed

This summer a teenager was killed when he hit a wire while riding his scooter — perhaps one deliberately strung across the path, as his family contends; or possibly one thrown up by his tires, as cops concluded at the time. But the investigation continues: Treating the death as suspicious, Metro is testing DNA samples found on the wire. [Review-Journal]

🏀 On the Verge!

While the Raiders continue honing their definition of “hapless,” Mark Davis’ other franchise, the Las Vegas Aces, are one win away from going back to the WNBA finals to defend their crown. They face Dallas tomorrow, and are led by A’ja Wilson, who was robbed of a second straight MVP title this week. [Las Vegas Sun]

📜 New Laws

Tougher fentanyl statutes, prison reforms, and measures assisting the homeless are among the 106 laws going into effect Sunday. [Nevada Current]

⚡ At the Center of Power

If you were to draw a Venn diagram of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the Las Vegas Stadium Authority, and the Oakland A’s lobbying effort in this year’s Nevada Legislature, Steve Hill would be the overlap. He’s CEO of the convention agency, chairs the stadium group, and pushed for the A’s funding in Carson City. And his LVCVA staff will now be his Stadium Authority staff — to the tune of $600,000.
