What we know about the Tupac arrest

October 2, 2023

Good morning, Las Vegas. Heads up that this is Banned Books Week — an annual rallying cry against small-mindedness and censorship. Tomorrow night, the Clark County Library will host what’s sure to be a rousing set of theatrical readings from challenged texts. Check it out!

What's CITY Talking About?

🚨 Suspect Arrested in Shakur Killing

Twenty-seven years after Tupac Shakur was murdered on a Las Vegas street, a local man has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Duane “Keffe D” Davis, who has long admitted being in the car from which the fatal shots were fired, was arrested in Henderson. Prosecutors say that 27 years ago he was the “on-ground, on-site commander” in a gang conflict, and that he ordered the shooting. He’s charged with murder, and is set to appear in court Wednesday. 🚙 Car Thefts Up

Nine months into 2023, there have been about 11,000 car thefts in the valley, according to Metro; it was closer to 7,600 at this point last year. That’s a 43% rise. And you’ll never guess which video-driven social media platform is getting the blame! [KTNV]

First, Where Was It? ⤴️

Last week’s challenge: I was soooo wrong. I thought this would be tougher. But so damn many of you knew the answer — the terminal at Reid International — that I literally do not have enough space in this newsletter to list all of you. But give yourself a 🏆 if you got it right, and thanks muchly for participating.

Now for this Week’s Challenge ⤵️

This mural depicts a compelling slice of local history, the toppling of the Landmark Hotel (see also, “Attacks, Mars”). Where can you see it? Same place I did — and, by way of a hint, I’ll tell you it wasn’t in downtown Las Vegas. Use the button below to tell me where it is, and be sure to put Where Is It in the subject line, so we don’t miss it.

What We Know About the Tupac Shakur Arrest

True crime author and journalist Cathy Scott wrote the book on the murder of Tupac Shakur. She joins host Dayvid Figler to dive into the details and reactions of Friday's arrest of the last living witness to the 1996 shooting. Scott explains how the suspect fits into Tupac's story and why it took 27 years to get this far.

That’s plenty for today. Let’s meet again in 24 hours.
