😬 A scary little device on Vegas streets

October 16, 2023

Monday, already? Well, prepare your head for scratchin’: According to this survey of the 100 best cities in which to drive, Las Vegas ranks … 41st? (Henderson: 51st.) Are we really better for drivers than cities like Madison, Denver, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Houston, Portland? These dorks think so!

I don’t think there’s a confusion emoji large enough for me to deal with this! So, onward! 👇

What's CITY Talking About?

🏫 Schools Close for ‘Caution’

Two local schools with Jewish connections — a Jewish private school and a charter school headquartered in a former Jewish temple — are set to reopen today after closing Friday due to concerns about spillover violence from the war in Israel. [KVVU]

🪛 Deadly Device

It’s called a “switch” — a small 3-D-printable device that turns a handgun into a fully automatic weapon, and law-enforcement officials say they’re becoming more common on local streets: About 130 switched guns have been confiscated here in two years. [KLAS]

🏎️ Gate Isn’t Enough

A condo complex within the F1 race course footprint says it may have to shell out $300,000-plus because of the event. Two of its three gates will be closed during the event, and the third is too small to handle that much traffic — fixing it will come with a hefty price tag. [KVVU]

😲 From Straitjacket to Suit

Performer Jonathan Goodwin, once a Las Vegas danger-courting “escapologist,” is reportedly suing the show “America’s Got Talent: Extreme” for injuries that left him a paraplegic. In the trick, Goodwin dangled in the air, straitjacketed, between two swinging cars. Instead of escaping before they hit each other, he was caught in the collision, then fell to the ground — missing the airbag meant to catch him. He claims the show took insufficient safety precautions. [Review-Journal]

This shouldn’t be too hard for Las Vegans who get around the valley — or who love a good crustacean festival, which this place will host on Saturday. OK, enough hinting! Send in your answers using the button below — and be sure to put Where Is It in the subject line.
