❓ Involuntary mental-health commitment: what happens?
October 17, 2023
Happy Tuesday to you. Today’s City Cast Las Vegas podcast episode looks at the valley’s surprisingly active farmers market scene. Once you’ve given that a listen, use this handy calendar to find a 🍅 farmers market to call your own. But first, scroll down and say hi to the jackalope.

What's CITY Talking About?
🚧 Alas, Poor Koval, We Knew You Well
Fans of traffic disruption will be thrilled to hear that the installation of a temporary bridge for the F1 race will cause full or partial closures of the Flamingo-Koval intersection now through next Wednesday, Oct. 25. Good thing only 50,000 cars pass through that spot each day! [KVVU]
📈 Where Are the Students?
Chronic absenteeism appears to be a chronic post-pandemic problem in Nevada schools. Before the shutdown, chronic absenteeism — when a child misses 10% of school days — in the state was about 19%. Now? Closer to 35%. Educators say the key to lowering that number is to motivate students to return rather than punish them. [Nevada Independent]
💥 More Hit-and-Runs
Hit-and-run incidents are on the rise around the valley — 3,400 so far this year, compared to around 3,000 total in 2020. Safety advocates call for more bike and pedestrian lanes, and for stricter enforcement of driving safety laws. [Review-Journal]

This Little Farmer Went to Market
We may live in a desert, but that hasn’t stopped farmers markets from catching on — heck, there’s pretty much one every day. Which ones should we check out, and what should we buy there? Host Dayvid Figler puts those questions and more to food entrepreneur Kris Wilson, who sells breads at local markets.
Thanks for your time. See you tomorrow.
