What's CITY Talking About?

📵 Phone Scammers Love Nevada
A report from the Federal Trade Commission revealed that Nevada ranked third in the country in reported fraud and fifth in identity theft cases, with over 44,000 fraud reports and 12,500 identity theft reports in 2022. Speaking during the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Subcommittee, Nevada Sen. Jacky Rosen highlighted examples from residents who had been victims of scammers posing as authority figures and asking for personal information. [Nevada Current]
🧑⚖️ Rights Versus Regulations
Las Vegas and Henderson have joined other Western jurisdictions in urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn previous rulings that labeled clearing homeless encampments without alternative shelter options "cruel and unusual." The move follows the adoption of local ordinances that limit outdoor sheltering for residents who struggle with homelessness and the failure of bills aimed at protecting their rights. 🔐 Bike Bandits Beware
The UNLV police have announced a campaign to better monitor bicycles and scooters on campus in an effort to fight rising property crime. According to a university report, robberies, burglaries, and car thefts doubled from 2021 to 2022. Students who register their rides with PD services can receive a free U-Lock. [8News Now]
