What's CITY Talking About?
⚖️ Cyberattack Lawsuit
Saying the recent school district cyber breach was “an entirely foreseeable event that could and should have been prevented” — allegedly resulting in student information leaking onto the web — some CCSD parents have filed a class-action suit against the district. (Also 👀: The alleged hackers claim they still have access to CCSD’s systems.) [KVVU]

🎒 Restorative Justice: Still Here
The idea of restorative justice in schools got hammered in this year’s legislative session — particularly in light of a student’s brutal attack on a teacher last year — and Gov. Lombardo made it a campaign point to get rid of it. But it wasn’t eliminated entirely, and is quietly having an effect, advocates say. [Nevada Current]

💣 Local Man Learns Bomb Threats = Felony
Claiming it was a prank, a local man last week called in a bomb threat to the Jimmy Kimmel Theatre at the Linq, allegedly claiming the comedian had run afoul of some bad dudes: “He owes these guys money, and he has not paid, and they are retaliating right now.” As you might gather from the tone of this blurb, no bomb was found. He was arrested. [Review-Journal]
🚗 Rate Expectations
Thanks to a variety of factors — not all of which have to do with driving — Nevada’s car-insurance rates are high and getting higher. And no one, from the insurance industry to state regulators, expects the situation to improve soon. [Nevada Current]
🏁 F1’s Hype Machine
The Formula 1 hoopla has more horsepower than one of its cars, including projections of an economic impact to the valley north of a billion dollars. How realistic are those conjectures, and do they warrant the months of turmoil the Strip has experienced? F1 superfan Jacob Solis of the Nevada Independent joins the podcast to break it down. 🚰 About That Water Wasters List …
You may have seen a recent story or two about an official list of residential water hogs. Our lead producer, Sonja Cho Swanson, asked Las Vegas Valley Water District spokesman Bronson Mack about it. A few noteworthy items: Those are 2022 figures, and were prepared in April. As for the list itself, “We don’t just arbitrarily put it together; we put it together when media requests it.” The first one was prepared for the Las Vegas Sun — some 20 years ago. Do people on the list ever demand that their data be deleted? “Some of them do call us,” Mack said. “But most of the time, their request is moreso along the lines, ‘I had a leak this year, that’s why my water use was high.’” Some even ask for solutions, he adds.

Who’s Zoomin’ Who?
The F1 race and its evolving disruptions have made headlines and fueled social-media angst for months, and it doesn’t seem likely to abate very quickly once the race is over. Questions abound, some basic (what’s the appeal? Who are the fans?), others more complicated (will it be worth the aggravations?). The Nevada Independent’s Jacob Solis, a motorsports fan, joins host Dayvid Figler on the podcast to talk about why he’s excited despite the headaches.
Lastly today, a parting treat: Wondering what Las Vegas resorts might look like in 2050, a Reddit user asked an AI to depict some. This video is the result. 📼 See you tomorrow!
