🛑 Judge hands anti-stadium petition a setback
November 7, 2023
OK, OK — as a longtime Broncos fan it pains me to say it, but 👏 to the Raiders for bouncing back from a chaotic interlude to win convincingly on Sunday — though they’ll have to do more than beat the hapless Giants before I buy into any talk of “rebirth.” Still, I can admit the team took a big step.

🏟️ Anti-Stadium Petition Bounced
The proposed referendum to repeal public funding for the A’s stadium hit a roadblock Monday: a judge disqualified the petition’s language, saying it was confusing and “legally deficient.” The nonprofit Schools Over Stadiums, the referendum’s organizers, can either file a reworded petition or appeal the ruling. 🌳 If Trees Fall in the Desert …
Trees, who needs ’em? Not a couple of watersheds near the Great Basin National Park, according to a federal judge, who decided not to block a Bureau of Land Management tree-clearing operation despite a lawsuit meant to stop it. Conservationists say the bureau — which says it wants to reduce fire danger — failed to consider long-term ecological consequences. [Nevada Current]

What Happens When Your Local Pharmacy Closes?
From one perspective, the closing of a Walgreens near downtown is just another microscopic blip on capitalism’s dashboard. But zoom in. The loss of a neighborhood pharmacy has strong ripple effects in the surrounding community. Writer Kim Foster joins podcast host Dayvid Figler — along with some voices from the area — to explore those effects.
