🧂 The joy of reading salty Yelp reviews
November 30, 2023
Good morning, Thursday reader. File this under “Press releases I’m sorry I read”: 2024’s best cities for candle lovers. I’ll save you a click: Las Vegas ranks 15th. 🕯️ It does bring up a good question, though: What would a Las Vegas-scented candle smell like?

What's CITY Talking About?
🎁 Merry TikTokmas!
An emotional TikTok plea by a local teacher for help in fulfilling her students’ “Wishmas” list has resulted in a flood of packages — hundreds of them — from around the nation. [KSNV]
😷 Insurance Impasse?
The back-and-forth continues over how to implement a Democratic-led 2021 state law mandating a “public option” for low-cost health insurance. Supporters say it will help people struggling with medical debt; critics say it will only worsen our state’s shortage of medical resources. [Nevada Independent]
🏆 Yelp Loves EDO
Always suspicious of dork-sourced judgments, I usually figure Yelp is best used for entertainment purposes only (see below!). But when it’s right it’s right: The site’s users have chosen Anima by EDO, already beloved by the local foodie elite, as the country’s top Best New Restaurant. [KSNV]
🏁 F1 Rundown
If you can stomach one more Grand Prix story, here’s a lively, closely observed account of the race, including some of its social functions, by a former Las Vegan with GQ-level access. [GQ]

Lastly, this fun internet doodad lets you compare your tipping behavior in various scenarios to the national averages. 🫴 And, yes, of course we (🎧) have a podcast episode about tipping. Give it a listen!
