⚖️ Judge to district: release cop-student footage
December 19, 2023
Let's begin this Tuesday with a shout-out to a local football program that demonstrates a commitment to excellence: Bishop Gorman, just dubbed the best high-school team in the nation.

🎞️ Judge Orders CCSD Transparency
The school district has until Jan. 17 to release body-cam footage of the February incident near Durango High School in which a district cop flung a student to the ground, according to a judicial ruling. The student had been recording the arrests of other youths. The district has refused to make the footage public, prompting a lawsuit by the ACLU. [Review-Journal]
⚖️ Alleged Fake Electors Enter Pleas
The six Republicans — including state party boss Michael McDonald — indicted for creating fake election documents after the 2020 election have all pleaded not guilty. A jury trial has been scheduled for March 11. [Las Vegas Sun]

⚖️ That’s, Uh, Entertainment
You’ll recall the big hoo-ha a few months back when cops arrested Duane “Keffe D” Davis in the killing of Tupac Shakur. Let’s check in. All that writing and confessing that Keffe D did about his role in the incident, which led in part to his arrest? “Done for entertainment purposes and to make money,” say his lawyers. [KLAS]

Durango Vs. the Fontainebleau
Las Vegas recently experienced the openings of two big, ballyhooed casinos, Durango Station and Fontainebleau. Our podcast producer Layla Muhammad went to both joints and in this episode she joins co-hosts Sarah Lohman and Dayvid Figler to talk about both places, their strengths and shortcomings, the convoluted history of the Fontainebleau — and which one Layla prefers.
That's all for today. Be well, and see you tomorrow.
