⛲ Will we ever see Bellagio’s fountains again?
January 2, 2024
Welcome back! Glad you could make it. We’ve got a sampler platter of news, Christmas tree disposal advice, thoughts on (ugh!) political ads — 2024’s an election year, gross! — and a podcast episode loaded with January event suggestions. Let’s do this.

What's CITY Talking About?
⚖️ New Laws
Increased cannabis limits, expanding voting rights in jails, and some 80 other new laws that go into effect with the new year. [KTNV]
✈️ Veep Impact
Culinary unionists, local Democrats, and fans of dignitary-driven road closures will have something to celebrate tomorrow when Vice President Kamala Harris comes to town to congratulate the union on its new contracts. [KSNV]
⛲ Fountain Blues
Good thing tourists don’t like to look at the Bellagio waterworks — the F1 scaffolding that blocked the attraction will hardly be down a minute before a CBS Super Bowl set will go up right there. Check out that and other Super Bowl changes coming next month. [Review-Journal]
💰 Revamping the Wash
Thanks to $20 million in federal funds, the Las Vegas Wash will get an overhaul: a new dam to thwart erosion, additional wetlands to filter the urban runoff, and expanded habitat for threatened species. [Nevada Current]

What to Do in January
January — it’s not just the freshest diaper on Baby New Year, it’s 29 more days of great things to do. And here to deet you up on all that is Andrew Kiraly, publisher of local events site TheList.Vegas. Will he offer his recs in breezy haiku form? I haven’t heard the tape yet, so I can’t definitively say he doesn’t. You’ll just have to tune in!
That’s it for today. Let’s do it again tomorrow. Your turn to bring donuts, right?
