🏁 Should biz be paid back for F1 losses?
January 11, 2024
Good morning. So it seems there’s a nationwide shortage of blood, but not a shortage of people who need it. Las Vegas isn’t exempt. Give if you can.

What's CITY Talking About?
💸 Businesses Seek F1 Reimbursement
Small businesses in and around the F1 disruption zone say they lost some $32 million during the event, and have asked tourism-agency bosses to establish a “recovery fund” to reimburse some of those losses. [Review-Journal]

🚗💨 Prosecutor Busted
According to a police report, a deputy district attorney for Clark County was driving 73 mph in a 35 zone when she was arrested for suspicion of DUI. “I’m not that drunk, I promise,” she reportedly said. [Review-Journal]

💵 Not All Teachers ♥️ New Contract
Don’t think the arbitrated contract between teachers and the school district means the conflict is over. Apparently, on the new pay scale, some beginning teachers will earn more than better-credentialed long-timers. Not surprisingly, the teachers union blames the district, and vice versa. [KSNV]
⚖️ Metro Sued
A Las Vegas woman has filed a federal wrongful-death lawsuit against Metro for the January 2022 death of her 19-year-old son. He was shot 17 times after Metro crashed into his apartment without, the suit contends, giving him time to recognize the intruders as police before shooting at them. [KLAS]

Meet the New Corn, Same as the Old Corn
Unlike the mass-produced tortillas you’ll find in most of the valley’s taco trucks and restaurants, tortillas made by the ancient process of nixtamalization are more pliable, fragrant, and nutritious. Today, we’re bringing back a conversation co-host Dayvid Figler had last year with Masazul chef Mariana Alvarado about why she’s bringing nixtamalized corn products to Las Vegas — and where you can try them.
