Welcome, reader. Hey, if you enjoy this newsletter, why not forward it to a friend? And if you don’t enjoy this newsletter, why not inflict it on an enemy? I’m good either way!
OK, now let’s get down to the serious business of wrapping up this week and planning your weekend. 👇

What's CITY Talking About?
☑️ Republicans Do Caucus
You didn’t need to be Nostradamus to see this coming: With no major challengers, Donald Trump swept Thursday’s Nevada GOP caucus. The victory nets him 26 delegates to the party’s national convention in July, his largest delegate haul so far. [Nevada Independent]

🏈 Open Mouth, Insert Football
Sportscaster Joe Buck appears to think some unfortunate incident will mar the Super Bowl, in large part because it’s happening here. “There’s gonna be something that happens because it’s Vegas, and it won’t stay in Vegas,” he told a podcast, adding, “There’s gonna be a big something that happens. I don’t know what it is. … That is going to be a mess, in my mind.” Then there’s football analyst Boomer Esiason, who, when asked what Las Vegas brings to the big game, answered, “Trouble.” [Review-Journal]

🚨 Substitute Busted
A CCSD substitute teacher has been arrested after several alleged incidents of abuse and neglect involving special-ed students — including allegedly flipping a table while a student was standing on it. [KLAS]
🗳️ We’re Number None!
With the strong showing by “None of these candidates” in this week’s presidential primaries, you might be wondering how that choice — said to be unique to Nevada — came to be on our ballots. Friend of the newsletter Steve Sebelius tells that story. Fun fact: It begins with Watergate. [KSNV]
🥶 Rising Gas
A reader named Brenda writes in to say her Southwest gas bill has tripled: “Some of us have resorted to keeping our heat below livable levels due to the unaffordability of the gas bill.” She’s not the only one, according to this lengthy look at the issue. The gas company blames the high market cost of natural gas. [KTNV]

Today on City Cast

Jara Agonistes, the Mayor’s A’s Haze, and Don’t Sphere the Creeper
What a week, right? You have the School Board and the superintendent embroiled in a 🍿-worthy resignation melodrama; you have the mayor of Las Vegas casting shade at the Oakland A’s, and then (whoops, negative press!) lamely trying to uncast it; you have a future Darwin Awards nominee climbing the Sphere to send an anti-abortion message. And we have podcast co-hosts Dayvid Figler and Sarah Lohman, joined by TheList.Vegas publisher Andrew Kiraly, eager to sort it all out for you.
➕ After a week like this, it might be a good time to update your 2024 Las Vegas bingo card. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
Alexa, tell me a joke: “Why did the pharmaceutical cross the road? To get to the other side effect.” Nooo! The last thing humanity needs is AI taking over dad jokes.
