🪩 How much damage did Sphere climber do?
February 12, 2024
I miss football.

What's CITY Talking About?
🏈 Sure, They Played the Game. But Now the NFL Will Hold a Caucus to Determine the Real Super Bowl Champs!
Plenty to talk about around last night’s Big Game, and I don’t just mean Travis Kelce’s er, rendition of “Viva Las Vegas.” How did our city fare on pop culture’s biggest stage? Co-host Dayvid Figler and executive producer Sonja Cho Swanson go deep in this special post-spectacle pod episode. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
🪩 You Could Buy a Couple of U2 Tickets With That!
Approximately $100,000 — that’s the estimated damage to the Sphere caused by the self-styled pro-life Spider-man who clambered to the top of it last week. [Review-Journal]
🗳️ Taxing Questions
North Las Vegas officials say they’ll place two property tax measures on the June ballot. Each would continue an already active tax — one that funds parks and fire stations, another that pays for police. Together, they’d account for about $250 per $100,000 of a property’s assessed valuation. Neither would raise taxes higher than they are now. [Nevada Current]

Where Is It?
How this works, for you newbies: I post a photo of some offbeat location in Las Vegas and challenge you to guess where it is. Scroll to the bottom for the correct answer.

There’s more than one mechanical bull in this town. Where is this’n?
- Gilley’s Saloon, of course. Everyone knows that.
- At the Triple Down Bar in the Punk Rock Museum.
- In Penn & Teller’s quasi-secret “friends-only” warehouse in Naked City.
- In the equestrian complex at the South Point, of course. Everyone knows that.
And if you know the bull’s name, email it to me by tomorrow and I’ll give you a shoutout in Wednesday's newsletter.
Plus, a big yee-haw of thanks to Ginger Bruner for sending in the photo.

Our Super Bowl Highlight Reel
Super Bowl LVIII is officially in the books — so how did this year’s event, hosted by Las Vegas, measure up? Co-host Dayvid Figler and executive producer Sonja Cho Swanson have a post-game chat to compare notes: the high- and lowlights, how many Vegas clichés the announcers spouted — the whole fun, messy drama of our city’s biggest game.
➕ Some of these Super Bowl road closures last well into this week.
The mechanical bull pictured above is in the Triple Down Bar at the Punk Rock Museum — it's like a mosh pit for one!
