What's CITY Talking About?
🚨 The Mysterious Case of the Missing Murderer
Ever lose track of something? Or someone? A convicted murderer went missing for more than a year before the Nevada prison system noticed. Jeremy Kelly was taken back into custody on February 16 after being “mistakenly and incorrectly” released in mid-2022. The matter only resurfaced because Kelly had a parole hearing coming up last month. [KLAS]
🗳️ Coding Error Blamed for Voting Record Confusion
Even if you didn’t vote in the recent primary, online records might’ve shown your ballot was counted. The Nevada Secretary of State’s office says a coding error was to blame, but the problem has been corrected and no fraudulent votes were cast due to the issue. The Nevada Republican Party stopped short of calling the whole thing sus, and is moving ahead with an investigation of its own in response to complaints. [Nevada Independent]
🚦 Exercising Caution on Yellow Lights
You’re not seeing flashing yellow lights for left-turns as often as you used to. Clark County is limiting their use at intersections with three lanes and a speed limit of 45 mph or higher in an effort to reduce crashes. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
🪲 Bed Bugs Invade Las Vegas
Southern Nevada Health District inspectors confirmed bed bug sightings at four Strip resorts: the Encore, Venetian, Mirage, and Excalibur. If you’ve stayed at one of those places in recent months, it may be time to buy new luggage and see a doctor about that itch. [KLAS]

🍸 Martini Bar Included?
Oscar Goodman had the best solution years ago but was turned down. He wanted to convert the prison in Jean to housing for the homeless and provide all necessary services including security, private housing, education, job training, fresh food, clean clothes, and transportation into town for medical needs or to work. It was shot down by the homeless advocates. To this day they do not have a better solution.

Today on City Cast
Across the Tracks: A Las Vegas West Side Story
Filmmaker Emmett Gates and writer Soni Brown join co-host Dayvid Figler to discuss “Across the Tracks: A Las Vegas Westside Story,” a new documentary that celebrates the history of a culturally rich Black neighborhood west of Downtown Las Vegas. Topics include past struggles, future plans, and the roadblocks that continue to hinder development.
In case you missed it, 48 Hours ran “The Assassination of Jeff German” over the weekend with a look at the events that led up to the death of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter and a jailhouse interview with the former Clark County official charged in the murder. The episode, available to watch online, also looks back on German’s decades-long history of investigating crime figures in Vegas.
That’s it for today. See you tomorrow.
