What's CITY Talking About?
🔎 The Search is On for a New Super
It’s the first school day in years without Dr. Jesus Jara as the Clark County School District superintendent. Now comes the tough part: finding a replacement. The teachers union is calling for a national search instead of promoting from within. The Clark County Education Association says 80% of its members have no confidence in Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell, who the union describes as Jara’s “hand-picked replacement” in a “failed legacy administration.” [Clark County Education Association/X]
• Jara announced his plans to resign in late January (for a price) and our podcast crew had plenty to say about it. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
❄️ Mt. Charleston School Remains Closed
The only elementary school on Mt. Charleston remains closed after suffering storm damage nearly six months ago, and parents are voicing their frustration. Students who would normally attend Earl B. Lundy Elementary School have been bused to Indian Springs for classes since late August – a commute of 45 minutes or so. CCSD has yet to confirm if Lundy will be ready for the beginning of a new school year this fall, leaving concerned parents to feel left out in the cold. [KTNV]
🗳️ Trump leads Biden in Nevada
A poll of Nevada voters gives President Trump 46% support versus 40% for President Biden in a 2024 presidential election matchup. Somehow, 14% remain undecided, even though the same two guys ran against each other four years ago (when Biden won the state). Trump’s lead increases when independent Robert Kennedy, Jr. (6%) is added to the options or when Vice President Harris is offered as an alternative to Biden. [KLAS]
• Reminder: You can still vote for “none of these candidates” in Nevada.
🥕 Farmers Markets Coming to the Historic Westside
A new farmers market series debuts in the Historic Westside on March 16, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Historic Westside Urban Farm will sell fresh produce and other goods from local growers and suppliers at James Gay III Park between D Street and Interstate 15. [KSNV]

What is Social Capital and Why Does Nevada Have so Little?
Nevada is rich in casinos and sports teams, but short on social capital. What’s it all about anyway and why is it so important in making Silver State communities better places to live? Author Kim Foster, who tackles the topic in her latest book, “The Meth Lunches,” joins co-host Dayvid Figler for a discussion about how social capital can be a valuable metric that helps elevate all neighborhoods.
So about that photo… The answer is B, although technically, the pilot is body-less, not headless. Say hello to the fellow when visiting the Aviation Museum at the airport. Like all good things in life, it’s free!
