What's CITY Talking About?
🌊 Lake Mead Surges, Summer Drought Looms
Lake Mead’s water levels have rebounded to 2021 levels, reaching 1,075 feet above sea level after winter precipitation and snow melt. However, experts warn that ongoing drought conditions in the western United States continue to pose challenges to managing the region’s water supply. Projections indicate a potential 20-foot drop in water levels by summer. [Las Vegas Sun]

👊 UFC at the Sphere
Dana White, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, announced that the organization will host an event at The Sphere on September 14 in conjunction with Mexican Independence Day. It would mark the first sporting event in the venue since it opened last year. Fighters have not yet been announced. [KSNV]
🦺 The Boring Company’s Tunnel Vision
Safety concerns and slow progress have marred construction for the Las Vegas hyperloop, a project from The Boring Company, which was founded by Elon Musk. The project, greenlit in 2019 despite objections from Mayor Carolyn Goodman, would create a high-speed underground train connecting key locations to the Las Vegas Convention Center, but construction workers say they’re being exposed to toxic mud containing accelerants, casting doubt on Musk’s ambitious vision for mass transit in the valley. 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger
Nevada Attorney General Aaron D. Ford has taken a stand against the proposed merger of grocery companies Kroger and Albertsons, joining attorneys general from Arizona, DC, Illinois, Maryland, New Mexico, Oregon, and Wyoming in a lawsuit aimed at blocking the consolidation. Ford asserts that the merger violated antitrust laws, citing concerns over potential price hikes and reduced competition. [KTNV]

Perez Hilton Breaks Down the Impact of Social Media Influencers in Las Vegas
Influencers have invaded Las Vegas and the OG celebrity blogger has a few things to say about it. Perez Hilton now calls Las Vegas home and he’s been observing the best and worst of the local media scene while remaining an influential online force in his own right. Perez Hilton joins co-host Dayvid Figler to discuss the true impact of influencers in Vegas, which ones have beef with each other, and how lucrative the whole thing can really be.
In case you missed it… CNN debuted a new four-part series over the weekend, Vegas: The History of Sin City, which seems to be an exercise in combining a predictable title with file footage and new interviews from the usual suspects (i.e., Wayne Newton and Paul Anka). But count us in. We’re suckers for Vegas history in all its neon glory. The first episode is available online, but you might need to sign up for a CNN account (aka proof you still pay for TV) to watch the whole thing.
