📬 Is your mail missing after a postal worker attack?
March 5, 2024
I’m back after an extended birthday weekend in Dana Point, California. I had an awesome lunch at Truly Pizza, led by the talents behind Metro Pizza and 00 Pie & Pub. It’s nice to see Vegas’ culinary influence spread elsewhere when too often, it’s the other way around.
I mean, look at this slice...

What's CITY Talking About?
📫 Postal Worker Attacked, Mail at Risk
Police say a suspect remains at large months after attacking a postal worker in Summerlin with a taser and stealing her keys. Since then, residents have complained on social media about missing mail and unlocked community mailboxes. Mail theft is on the rise across the board with a $150,000 reward offered for information. It would probably be more cost-effective to just change the locks, which still hasn’t happened by now. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
🎰 This Isn’t Fair
A slot machine player at Caesars Palace won two big jackpots in the same night. The unnamed person won $165,000 at one machine around 5 p.m. on Saturday, then won $545,000 at another machine less than five hours later. In the good ol’ days, the mob found this stuff suspicious. These days, Caesars sends out a press release about it 🍾 Side note: My Powerball ticket turned up zilch over the weekend in Cali. [KLAS]

🏉 Two Games, One Chump
Yes, that’s an emoji for “rugby.” Allegiant Stadium set a record for the largest attendance to see a rugby game in the United States with 40,746 people in the stands to see the NRL season-opening double-header on Saturday. Is there room for a pro rugby team in Las Vegas? Probably not. But there’s always room for more Australian tourists in Las Vegas 💰 [The Glorious League Freak]
- The bad news: One of Saturday’s players was accused of making a racial slur during the game. [The Guardian]
🎸 Rattle and Mum
Can U2 tickets be filed as a campaign expense? Dr. Jill Biden took in the final U2 show at the Sphere Saturday night following a campaign appearance in Las Vegas. Well, it was a choice between that or Blue Man Group. [CNN]
- I don’t care what anyone says, Blue Man Group is not a scam. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

How You Can Help the Desert Tortoise
It’s not uncommon to see a desert tortoise in Southern Nevada, but the animal remains endangered — even with a female capable of laying up to 14 eggs a year for more than 80 years. Wildlife biologist Beth Wolff talks to Las Vegas City Cast co-host Sarah Lohman about why the math doesn’t add up — and what we can do about it as a community.

After all the crazy wind the past few days, if you only take one thing away from today’s newsletter, it’s this…
Bring in your trash containers.
That’s it for today. See you tomorrow!
