🫣 Governor picks fight with Biden
March 20, 2024
🌎 If you’re excited to see what’s next at the Sphere, rumors that the Eagles will play the venue later this year are now almost-but-not-quite confirmed. In more pressing news…

What's CITY Talking About?
🇺🇲 Lombardo Vs. Biden
You may have noticed: it’s an election year. Yesterday, President Biden flew into Vegas to discuss the cost of housing in a campaign speech, and Governor Lombardo responded with a warm hug. Actually, no, that didn’t happen. He countered (in advance), saying the President should release federal land for more housing in Nevada. [KSNV]
- Housing was a big topic among lawmakers at last year’s legislative session. Did they actually do anything about it — and which affordable housing bills did Lombardo veto? [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
🗳️ California Official Wants Nevada Senate Seat
Can you live in San Diego and run for one of Nevada's Senate seats? Sure, I suppose. Mike Schaefer, who not only lives in California, but is already an elected official there, is challenging Jacky Rosen in the Democratic primary. He lists reading the Review-Journal as one of his qualifications 🤔 [Nevada Independent]
🎰 Goodbye Showroom, Hello Sportsbook
Boyd Gaming is shuffling some stuff around at the Suncoast, giving the 23-year-old property a major facelift over the next two years. The showroom will be turned into a sportsbook with stadium seating, while the bingo room takes over the old sportsbook space. Expect to see further renovations to the check-in area, casino floor (with a new cocktail bar), bowling center, and, in news that will totally shock you, a food hall in place of the now-closed buffet. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
🍹 No More Wasting Away in Margaritaville
Margaritaville appears to be closing on April 15 after more than 20 years at the Flamingo. We’re not sure if the move has anything to do with the recent passing of founder Jimmy Buffet, the value of Strip-side real estate in an F1 world, or an upcoming wave of dining revamps at the property, which includes new restaurants by Lisa Vanderpump and Gordon Ramsay. Is The Strat Part of the Strip?
A lot of you weighed in on our story about where the Strip and Downtown unofficially meet. Thanks for taking the poll! Here are the results…

Speaking of which…
“I think The Strat sold the rest of its name to the Sphere.”
— Brian R.
🚘 On the DMV shifting further online:
“It might be easier to do stuff online, but I paid $174 to renew my registration! I have never seen over $100 in taxes before.”
— Jenn P.
I don’t know. $174 sounds pretty good to me 🤑
☀️ And should NV wait for CA to drop daylight saving?
“Since when did any local Las Vegan or Nevadan ever care what the messed-up state of California does? I say cancel DST. Arizona put themselves first when making the decision 56 years ago! Do you think they've thought twice about what Nevada’s doing? No. Nevada needs to be a leader. Make the change and California will follow.”
— Tia Z.
