What's CITY Talking About?

🏁 F1 a Game of “Winners and Losers”

Clark County commissioners faced disgruntled business owners over a debriefing report that tried to gauge the economic effects of last year’s Formula 1 Grand Prix. The end result — more questions than answers as it appears the county itself lost nearly half a million dollars in the end. Looking ahead to this year’s race, Clark County wants F1 to deliver a transportation plan by May 1 and give a 90-day notice on permit applications. Meanwhile, Formula 1 has dropped its $40 million bill for repaving the nearly four-mile course. [LVSportsBiz.com]

🇺🇲 Biden Closes in on Trump

With eight months to go until the election, Donald Trump continues to lead President Joe Biden in a new poll of Nevada voters, but the gap is tightening with less than three points between them. That’s within the margin of error — and every vote counts in a swing state.

  • The same poll says F1 was a “good thing” for Las Vegas, so what does anybody really know anyway? [KLAS]

🎥 Summerlin Showbiz

A proposed 30-acre movie studio is inching closer to becoming reality in South Summerlin. The Clark County Zoning Commision officially gave its blessing to the project, which includes 13 structures and a backlot near Flamingo Road and Town Center Drive. [KLAS]

🌏 Next Sphere Headliner? Hewlett Packard

Hewlett Packard Enterprise will stage a keynote address inside the Sphere as part of the company’s HPE Discover Conference in June. It’s not the kind of venue you book for “just a speech,” so it will be interesting to see how the technology is used in such a formal setting. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
