🤨 Prosthetics stolen from combat vet
March 25, 2024
☀️ Here’s a great way to start the week. Our buddies at Neon Feast are running a heckuva contest: Just upload your photo of a participating Vegas restaurant and you could win a dinner for two at Joёl Robuchon with taxes, tip, and wine pairing included 🍷 That is an insane experience to get for free 🤯

What's CITY Talking About?
😣 Prosthetic Legs Stolen From Veteran
A combat veteran’s prosthetic legs were found after being stolen from his truck — unfortunately, with a few of the parts missing. Why would anyone steal these? The legs were in a box that resembles a gun case 🤔 So draw your own conclusions. [KSNV]
🤑 The Price of Living in Las Vegas
To “live in sustainable comfort” in Las Vegas, a single adult requires an annual salary of $94,432. That’s according to a study that weighed needs like housing, groceries, and hobbies, with enough leftover to save or invest. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
🗳️ More Voters than Adults??
Republicans are taking legal action against Nevada, arguing that voter rolls are suspiciously high in Clark County and Carson City and that three counties (Douglas, Lyon and Storey) actually have more registered voters than total adults. The state says the math is off. Either way, this election year is gonna be ✨crazy✨ [Nevada Independent]
🖐️ Correction: The right to an abortion in Nevada is protected under state law, not the state constitution as mentioned in Friday’s newsletter. However, that could change as signatures continue to be collected for a proposed ballot measure this year.

Where Is It?

A twisted airplane propeller can mean a lot of things in Las Vegas. The big question: Why is this one attached to a rock?
Is this …
A. A monument marking the site of the first private airport in Southern Nevada.
B. A tribute outside the Pioneer Saloon, honoring actress Carole Lombard, who died in a nearby plane crash.
C. A memorial for an Air Force plane that crashed on Mt. Charleston while on the way to Area 51.
D. An art piece made with a leftover prop from the Super Summer Theatre at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

Is Circus Circus Actually … Amazing?
Let’s be honest. Circus Circus doesn’t have the best reputation in town. But this gritty, worn-in casino has stood the test of time. It’s gotta be doing something right. City Cast Las Vegas co-hosts Dayvid Figler and Sarah Lohman paid a visit to Circus Circus to see what it’s all about and why this Vegas fixture has stuck around for so long.

So about that photo … The answer is C.
The propeller is from the USAF C-54 that crashed on Mt. Charleston while flying to Area 51 in 1955. All 14 people on board were killed, including scientists and CIA officials. Their work is honored with the Silent Heroes of the Cold War National Memorial at the Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway.
