💸 Yes, you’re paying more for car insurance

March 29, 2024

🤞 Fingers crossed … City Cast Las Vegas is nominated for Best Podcast at this weekend’s Silver State Awards ceremony at Resorts World. While we’d love to win, we’re happy to just be nominated (really) and any recognition is always appreciated 🙏

What's CITY Talking About?

⛪ Church Faces Opposition

Lone Mountain residents are opposing plans for a proposed 216-foot-tall Mormon temple. More than 700 signatures were collected on a petition that says the church exceeds an appropriate height for a rural-zoned community and could bring excessive lights and traffic to the area. [KVVU]

  • On the other side of the valley, an explosive device was found at an LDS youth event — the latest in a series of similar reports in Henderson. [KVVU]

🚘 Car Insurance Spikes in Nevada

If you’ve noticed a jump in the price of car insurance, you’re not alone. Rates have increased as much as 20% in Nevada, which now has the third-highest average premiums in the country. It has something to do with the number of crashes per capita, but good drivers say they shouldn’t be punished for bad drivers. [KTNV]

🏈 February was a Heckuva Month in Vegas

Never underestimate the power of the Super Bowl. Vegas saw 3.37 million visitors during February. That’s up nearly 10% over the same month last year, while the average room rate jumped more than 40% to a record $248.35. Gaming revenue, buoyed by sports betting, was a massive $1.34 billion, just shy of the record set in December. [KSNV]

🎰 Casino for Sale

The inactive Western Hotel & Bingo Parlor on Fremont Street is up for sale by the estate of Tony Hsieh. No price was given. We assume this is a “serious inquiries only” type of thing. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
