🛴 Is Vegas ready to try scooters again?
April 8, 2024
☀️ That’s right. The eclipse is today. Las Vegas won’t be in total darkness, but we’ll still get to experience the phenomenon, peaking around 11:20 a.m. Revisit our guide to safely view the eclipse and enjoy the show 😎

What's CITY Talking About?
🛴 Scooters Stage a Comeback
Electric scooters had a moment as a trendy form of public transportation, but earned scorn for cluttering streets and sidewalks in various cities due to an undocked take-and-leave format. Now, Go X is trying out a new way to make scooters work in Las Vegas with users picking up and dropping off the vehicles at partner businesses. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

💦 Goldfish Invade Henderson
Hundreds of fast-multiplying invasive goldfish have become an unavoidable sight at a pond in the Cadence community. Plans are in the works to relocate the fish to a more appropriate environment. The problem likely started when someone dumped unwanted pets into the pond. [KVVU]

🛍️ 99 Cents Only Stores to Close
Some discounts are too good to last. The owner of 99 Cents Only is closing all 371 stores across the U.S., including 23 in Southern Nevada. Liquidation sales are already underway, so get those deals while you can. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
🍼 More Babies Born with Syphilis
Nevada is fourth in the nation when measuring rates of babies born with syphilis. The good news: this is preventable and treatable, so maybe we can turn this around 🤔 [Nevada Current]

Where Did All the Late Night Coffee Shops Go?
Much like New York, Las Vegas is a city that never sleeps. Yet it’s hard to find a coffee shop that’s open past late afternoon. City Cast Las Vegas co-hosts Dayvid Figler and Sarah Lohman talk with writer Kim Foster about the glory days of late-night coffee joints (back in the ‘90s) and why they’re so hard to find now.
