What's CITY Talking About?
🏈 O.J. Simpson Dies, Forever Connected to Nevada
The glove “didn’t fit” and jurors decided they “must acquit” O.J. Simpson in possibly the most famous murder trial in American history. Yet it was a Vegas robbery charge at Palace Station that sent the former NFL star to Nevada prisons for nine years before his 2017 parole. Simpson is responsible for two “Where were you when?” moments: the Bronco chase and the verdict itself. It’s now more common to share stories of spotting Simpson around Las Vegas, where he spent the final years of his life. (For me, it was Cleaver Steakhouse and Grape Street Cafe). Simpson died of cancer, but his legacy as an athlete will never outpace his infamy and an ongoing debate over “getting away with murder.” [KSNV]
🚰 Fixing a Dam Problem
Damage to pipes at Arizona’s Glen Canyon Dam could affect the water flow into Lake Mead. If water levels drop far enough at Lake Powell, the unreliable underwater tubes would be the only option for the Colorado River to continue on its path to Nevada. [KVVU]
📚 The Future is Here
Congrats to the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, winner of the 2024 Library of the Future Award by the American Library Association. [ALA]
- The designation confirms what we’ve known for a long time — there’s more than books at our local libraries 👏 [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
