What's CITY Talking About?
🔥 Shooting Set Off Red Rock Canyon Wildfire
The Bird Springs Wildfire in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area was — you guessed it — “human-caused” (in this case, by target shooting) and threatened an area known for desert tortoise habitats. The fire grew to 150 acres but is expected to be almost fully contained by the time you wake up, reach for your phone in bed, and read this newsletter. [KVVU]

💸 Phone Scam Targets Bank Customers
Summerlin Police are warning of a new scam that’s on the rise. Criminals are calling potential victims, pretending to be bank representatives concerned about “suspicious activity,” and offering to send a person over to dispose of the “compromised” bank card. The process even includes a text verification to seem more legit. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
📱 Beat Drops for Phone Thieves at EDC
Three men were arrested for stealing more than 30 phones from dance music fans at the Electric Daisy Carnival earlier this month. To be fair, a lot of those outfits don’t have room for pockets. [KVVU]

On the Tropicana liquidation sale
Curiosity captured my attention ... I quickly changed my mind when I heard there’s a $20 cover charge. Not only is the community funding tons of money to build a stadium there, but now we’re being charged to take advantage of some old furniture sales? Humph!

Las Vegas Weekly Endorsements
You may have noticed, we’re in the middle of a pivotal election season. Shannon Miller of the Las Vegas Weekly talks to City Cast Las Vegas co-host Dayvid Figler about the magazine’s joint endorsements with the Las Vegas Sun, how the decisions were made, and why the primaries matter more than you think.

Congratulations to Henderson’s Cowabunga Bay, which was named one of the top three water parks in the country by USA Today. Cowabunga Canyon by Summerlin isn’t too shabby either 🌊
