👽 A mysterious monolith appears in the desert

🖐️ Quick note! We’ll be off tomorrow in recognition of Juneteenth, which is now a federal holiday with celebrations throughout Las Vegas 🎉

What's CITY Talking About?
👽 Mysterious Monolith Appears
It’s either a prank or a sign that space alien overlords are coming for us — starting with Vegas. Police shared photos of a mysterious “monolith,” spotted over the weekend near Gas Peak north of the valley. Another similarly weird reflective tower appeared on Fremont Street in 2020. [KSNV]
🤑 Beware Fake Benjamins
There appears to be a spike in phony $100 bills. Either that or somebody keeps targeting the same business. Yukon Pizza (one of our faves! 😋) noticed more customers trying to pay with counterfeits recently, including four in just one day. Want to know if your cash is fake? The federal government has a few ways to figure it out. [KTNV]
🏠 Land Bills = More Housing?
We often wonder if politicians can walk and chew gum at the same time 🤔 Now, can they protect federal land while releasing some of it for housing in Nevada? A U.S. Senate committee is looking at two bills that would do just that, including one to release 25,000 acres for development in Southern Nevada, give nearly 2 million acres an official wilderness designation, and expand the Red Rock Canyon and Sloan Canyon national conservation areas by nearly 66,000 acres.
