🚄 Would Trump be bad for high-speed rail?
July 2, 2024 · Rob Kachelriess
🏒 Did you watch the NHL Draft over the weekend?

The spectacle proved the Sphere could work on television, adding yet another dimension to this crazy, high-tech entertainment venue. I joined the team from City Cast Las Vegas to discuss the first anniversary of the Sphere and how it plans to evolve in year two.

What's CITY Talking About?
♨️ Cruel and Unusual Punishment?
Inmates say they’re being “tortured” as they cope without working air conditioning at the High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs. The Nevada Department of Corrections confirms issues with at least three swamp coolers at the facility as temperatures hover well into the triple digits this week. [KSNV]
🚌 Armed Security Boards Public Buses
The RTC is increasing the presence of armed security to up to 300 officers in the field, patrolling both stations and buses. This follows the recent integration of AI features into security cameras to identify potential threats and weapons among passengers. [KTNV]
🚄 Could Trump Derail High-Speed Trains?
A second Donald Trump administration would “be the death knell for high-speed rail,” according to former transportation secretary Ray LaHood, who says Republicans are resistant to the concept. The impending Brightline West line between Las Vegas and Southern California is cited as part of a new era for train travel in the U.S., although, as we pointed out back in April, Sen. Jacky Rosen says it’s already funded. [Newsweek]

💣 A Hollywood Bomb and Nuclear Fallout?
A new documentary digs deep into a theory connecting fallout from atomic weapons testing outside Las Vegas and cancer rates among the cast and crew of “The Conqueror.” The notorious John Wayne flop was financed by Howard Hughes nearly 70 years ago and filmed in St. George, downwind of the military facility then known as the Nevada Test Site. “The Conqueror: Hollywood Fallout” is now available on demand.
