🧨 This is what Red Ridge Park looked like the morning after July 4th.

A park littered with trash and leftover firework debris.

It’s a popular spot for setting off illegal fireworks, but if you’re going to break the law, at least clean up after yourself 🤨

What's CITY Talking About?

☀️ Hot, Hot, Heat

Las Vegas now knows what 120 degrees feels like, setting an all-time record Sunday 🥵 For reference, that’s the internal temperature of a rare steak. The rest of the week doesn’t look much better as the heatwave continues. [KVVU]

🇺🇲 Presidential Visit

President Biden is coming to Las Vegas next week on his 2024 Forget About the Debate Tour. He’ll speak before the NAACP at Mandalay Bay and UnidosUS at the MGM Grand. Meanwhile, Nevada’s top Democrats in Congress are continuing to support Biden as the party’s presidential nominee, although Rep. Susie Lee seems the most open to discussing options. 💰 The Mirage is Giving Away Money

Really. Today, the Mirage is launching a six-day promotional cash giveaway ahead of its closure on July 17. According to regulations, the casino is required to return $1.6 million in progressive jackpot revenue to the gamblers who collectively lost it in the first place. [World Casino Directory]

Animal Entertainment at the Mirage

When the Mirage closes on July 17, it will be the end of an era for Las Vegas entertainment. From tigers to dolphins, the resort was known for animal acts that matched its tropical theme — but those types of shows could be relegated to the past. University of Guelph history professor Susan Nance talks to City Cast Las Vegas co-host Sarah Lohman about the shifting tides of Strip entertainment and where those animals ended up.

Yeah, the heat’s brutal, but things could be worse. We’re wishing the best for our friends in Houston who are getting past a hurricane right now.

🍼 I think Beryl is going to top the list of least popular baby names of 2024.
