📈 Vegas jobs are growing!
July 22, 2024 · — Adrian González
Hi, friends! It’s City Cast editor (and self-proclaimed $10 Cowboy) Adrian González filling in for today. If you got the Charley Crocket reference, you’ll love the roundup I have below of some of the best country music spots in Vegas. 🤠

What's CITY Talking About?
💼 More Jobs, More Unemployment
Nevada’s labor force added around 2,300 jobs in June, but it came with a 5.2% increase in unemployment. According to the Department of Employment Training and Rehabilitation, job losses in government and business services were somewhat counteracted by gains in the hospitality and construction sectors. 🤑 Basketball is Expensive These Days
A bidding war for an NBA expansion team likely to be awarded to Las Vegas could top $7 billion in total costs, a price tag that would make it the most expensive sports franchise in the country. Interested owners include LeBron James and the company that owns Red Bull, but that list is expected to grow once the league begins the expansion process. [Bloomberg 🔒]
🫠 On an Island in the Sun
Las Vegas keeps breaking heat records and our city’s urban design is making it worse, according to data from the Climate Central and a 2022 heat mapping project. Dark-colored streets and the lack of shade and green spaces in the city create an urban heat island effect, a phenomenon that often keeps dense metro areas hotter than greener neighborhoods. Projects across the valley are slowly working to combat rising temperatures with better urban planning. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🤷 Saving a Bit of Lunch Money
The Oakland Athletics have announced that they don't plan to use all of the $380 million in public money allocated to the construction of their new Las Vegas stadium — just, you know, $350 million of it. Thanks?
The remaining funds for the $1.5 billion stadium project will come from lenders and private equity. [AP]

How to Have the Best Dam Day In Boulder City
Just half an hour from downtown Las Vegas, on the way to Hoover Dam, Boulder City feels like a world apart. But there’s a lot more going on here than meets the eye. Today on the City Cast Las Vegas podcast, co-host Dayvid Figler sits down with Jill Lagan, a third-generation Boulder City resident and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce, to talk about what makes life here unique, and how visitors can make the most of their trip to Boulder City. Plus, the thriller of a bike trail named after a murderous doctor, a new age cult, and BC’s most famous Bighorn sheep.

So, about that photo… The answer is B.
This snapshot of Vegas essentials was created by Miami-based artist Daniel Allen Cohen, who often plays with different media to create cheeky works. You can find it at Resort World Las Vegas.
