🧳 Where most homeless find housing
July 30, 2024 · Rob Kachelriess
👀 If you want to see what I look like, flip to page 27 in the latest issue of The Town magazine, which covers Las Vegas happenings with a focus on Summerlin and the West Valley 😁 I was profiled in a piece about podcasting and local journalism 👍
It’s perfect timing as The Town editor Melinda Sheckells joins City Cast Las Vegas co-hosts Dayvid Figler and Sarah Lohman to discuss August activities in today’s episode ☀️

What's CITY Talking About?
💔 R.I.P. Reba
A reward continues to grow in an effort to track down the criminal who left a bulldog inside a taped plastic tote next to a dumpster. The dog, named Reba by the vets who tried to nurse her back to health, failed to fully recover and passed away over the weekend 😞 [KLAS]
🔥 Interstate Fire Burns for Days
The traffic nightmare is over on Interstate 15, but the cargo from the truck fire that caused it is still hanging around. The container of lithium batteries continues to burn three days (and counting) later, but has been pushed out of sight from drivers with no word on when it will be fully extinguished. 🚌 Homeless Find Permanent Housing Elsewhere
The vast majority of homeless Las Vegans received “permanent housing” through the Courtyard resource center by taking a bus out of town. The City of Las Vegas says the “ticket-to-home” program isn’t open-ended bussing and involves due diligence to ensure there’s a home waiting at the other end of the trip. [Nevada Current]
🏁 What, No Comps?
The LVCVA spent $4 million of taxpayer money on tickets to last year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, handing them out to executives, staff, and celebrities. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

Cool Stuff to Do in August
August is a relatively quiet month that most of us spend indoors. Spoiler: Booze might be discussed.

🖐️To anyone who lives in Pahrump — we know a few of you out there — your DMV is going to be closed for a while due to a recent fire. You’ll have to come wait in line here in Vegas to get your auto-stuff done 🚘
