What's CITY Talking About?

🗳️ Nevada’s Influence in the Veepstakes

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada was part of a panel of “confidantes” that helped Kamala Harris narrow down a field of potential running mates to Minnesota governor Tim Walz. [Politico]

  • At least one Washington reporter believes if Harris wins, Masto “would be a key ally” to the new president and “serve as her eyes and ears in the Senate.” [@birenbomb/X]
  • Harris and Walz will make their first appearance together as the Democratic ticket in Las Vegas with a rally Saturday. [Las Vegas Sun]

💸 Growing Pains in the Arts District

We’ve already mentioned how artists are being priced out of the Arts District. The neighborhood’s entrenched industrial component is feeling the pinch too, including auto repair shops that have moved out due to rising rents. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🏰 Spooky Castle for Sale

The Dracula-inspired castle built by magician Lance Burton is on the market for $10 million. The whole thing can be yours, including a watch tower and secret passageways — and you still get to write “Henderson” on your mailing address. [Mansion Global]

🎶 What Has Resorts World Done for You Lately?

Janet Jackson is finalizing a residency at Resorts World that would kick off New Year’s Eve weekend. The hotel’s entertainment scene has been relatively quiet of late, but its theater recently extended a run for Carrie Underwood and is looking to host Celene Dion’s Vegas comeback. [TMZ]

On something less divisive: the election!

I’m very disappointed you broadcast a very left-leaning interview with Dana Gentry. Her insistence on associating Project 2025 with Donald Trump is fear mongering as we see all over MSNBC and CNN. Donald Trump has denounced it. End of story.

— Brian W.

Send both of these guys (Sam Brown and JD Vance) back to Texas where they belong with their backwards thinking about women and women’s rights.

— Eileen R.

I’m psyched for Kamala! I’ve volunteered for the campaign.

— Martha C.

Ban Harris from the state!

— Lori E.

This whole “no tax on tips” message is just pandering to the service workers. The reality is the Trump/Vance campaign is anti-union, anti-raising of minimum wage, anti-overtime pay, anti-holiday pay, anti-sick pay, anti-vacation pay, etc. Don’t fall for their B.S.

— John F.

I'm voting for Robert Kennedy Jr. He speaks volumes of truth, has integrity, and is for peace, and unity.

— R. F.

When the left was told the candidate they voted for in the primaries was stepping away, they instantly accepted the person put in his place … Now when the right questions her policies or capability, the media immediately calls those questions racist and sexist, offering blind support for a woman who won 0 delegates in the 2020 primaries.

— Howard K.

To say I'm shocked at the way things are in the world today would be an understatement. I try to remain hopeful, but I hear way too many archaic thoughts.

On endless construction

The orange cones in Las Vegas are INSANE! Way too many of them. Is someone getting paid off? … The cones are usually more of a hazard than what they are trying to protect us from.

On community resources

Here are some more local charities deserving a mention: Living Grace Homes, Friends in the Desert, Dress for Success, and The Just One Project.

Gambling is Getting Worse in Las Vegas

🖐️ Public Service Announcement:

I’m writing this newsletter on my laptop while having lunch in the communal dining area at Whole Foods. Some dude at the table next to me is watching videos on his phone with the volume up.

Don’t be that guy.
