🍎 It’s back-to-school season and a new semester begins at UNLV on August 26. Someone you won’t see on campus — Hey Reb!, who was retired by the university a few years ago.

In today’s episode of City Cast Las Vegas, co-hosts Dayvid Figler and Sarah Lohman talk to the Nevada Current’s April Corbin Girnus about the mascots who are still around, stirring up spirit at schools, sports events, and a few surprising situations.

What's CITY Talking About?

🏀 Aces Sued for Discrimination

Former Las Vegas Aces forward Dearica Hamby filed suit against the team and the WNBA, claiming she faced bullying and discrimination for becoming pregnant. The league already punished Aces coach Becky Hammon for violating respect-in-the-workplace policies against Hamby, who now plays for the Los Angeles Sparks. [KSNV]

👀 Lombardo Defrauded by Fiore?

Gov. Joe Lombardo could be compelled to testify in the criminal trial of former City Council member Michelle Fiore, who’s accused of using police officer memorial funds for her own expenses. Federal prosecutors are investigating a donation that matches the amount and date of one made by Lombardo’s campaign account when he was Clark County sheriff. [Nevada Independent]

💰 Arrest Made in $750K Sam’s Town Heist

🥵 Yes, the Nights Are Getting Hotter in Vegas

Las Vegas is one of the fastest-growing — and fastest warming — cities in the U.S., jumping six degrees in average summer temperatures over 74 years. (That might not seem like much, but hang out in 86-degree heat and 92-degree heat and compare.) The nights are actually becoming warmer at a more rapid pace than daytime temperatures.
