What's CITY Talking About?
⚖️ Quick Verdict on Fraud Charges
Former City Council member and suspended Nye County Justice Michele Fiore was found guilty of federal conspiracy and wire fraud charges, misusing police officer memorial funds for rent, her daughter’s wedding, and other personal purposes. [Hey Las Vegas ✍️]
🚘 Very Viral, Very Angry Driver Finally Arrested
Remember that guy caught on camera, appearing to attack a woman during a road rage incident in June? Well, he was arrested in Virginia and is on his way back to Vegas to face charges. [KSNV]
👮 Downtown Order-Out Zone Expands
Las Vegas City Council voted to expand the boundaries of the “order-out” corridor to include the Plaza and Main Street Station parking garage. Misdemeanor offenders can be banned from the area in a move designed to reduce crime near tourist attractions. [Las Vegas Sun]
- This comes as both Las Vegas and Clark County weigh renewed bans for sleeping and camping on sidewalks and other public areas. City Cast Las Vegas co-hosts Sarah Lohman and Dayvid Figler welcome journalist Jacob Solis to discuss the politics behind the policies. Plus, the latest on expanding the airport, and yes, that 43-foot-tall naked Trump statue that generated national headlines. It’s all part of today’s Friday news roundup. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

On the passing of Pete Rose
Pete should DEFINITELY be in the Hall of Fame!
— Fred W.
In a time when erasing history seems to be the norm, it's a shame that Major League Baseball is doing the same. Pete Rose has baseball records that will never be broken. Generations of young players should be reminded of that.
— W.A.

(Anyone remember the Pete Rose Bar & Grill that lasted less than a year on the Strip before closing in 2016? It was in the old Hawaiian Marketplace location and was best known for a baseball bat throne. I found a few photos on file.)
On Green Day’s singer trashing Las Vegas
I second your feelings about Billie Joe Armstrong's unfortunate comments about our city. I was especially disappointed to learn that he said them right after making a speech about unity at his previous concert date in Phoenix. My husband and I had traveled to Phoenix specifically for the concert. The show was phenomenal and Billie Joe made what seemed like a genuine and heartfelt speech about unity, togetherness, and no more divisiveness. His Bay Area show comments merely two days later really felt like a punch in the gut. I wish he would have been more thoughtful about expressing his frustration with the Oakland A's drama (and maybe realizing that most of us are also not supportive of the move).

On UNLV football
The team has obviously been in the national news for player and realignment reasons, and so far has stepped up and done lots of things right under the increased scrutiny. The city has to give back and put butts in seats for what seems like their third “most important game ever” in a row!

(Tickets are still available for tonight’s game against Syracuse at Allegiant Stadium 🏈)
On commuting in Vegas
Yes, commuting in Las Vegas is quick. Especially if you know the back streets and can (try to) avoid any construction zones.
— Anna B.
I can say a similar drive from Henderson to Summerlin would be at least doubled or tripled in New York City, Dallas, Houston, L.A. and Phoenix.
— Sal L.
I'm from Chicago! I used to commute three hours each way if I walked out the door even 10 minutes later than scheduled!! Las Vegas traffic is a dream.
— Amanda K.
A friend always says you can get anywhere in Las Vegas in 27 minutes. I don't know if that's true, but it's pretty good for a city of this size.
— Carolyn S.
Compared to L.A., the traffic is super fast. The commuting distances are a lot shorter too. Many people in California commute 30-50 miles each way, plus traffic, which usually equals 1-2 hours each way.

On Glass Tiger playing Vegas in the ‘80s
Someone should let Glass Tiger know that the Aladdin Theater for the Performing Arts is alive and well — now known as PH Live, but still the same wonderful, nostalgia-inducing space where most 1980s high school graduations were held, and where we saw bands from Journey to J Geils to Jane's Addiction!
