🚧 Trespassers in the underground Tesla tunnels
October 15, 2024 · Rob Kachelriess
👋 Welcome back! Hope you enjoyed the great weather over the holiday weekend.
City Cast is returning with a bang! 💥 Our Las Vegas co-hosts joined their counterparts from six other cities — Denver, Houston, Madison, Nashville, Philly, and Portland — for a special-edition podcast episode. Think of it as a collection of mini-stories from throughout the country — each with a local angle that resonates nationwide.
We tried this once before — with enthusiastic feedback 👏 — and are excited for you to hear the latest version 🙂 Can you guess the story we chose to represent Vegas? [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
What's CITY Talking About?
🚧 Tesla Tunnel Troubles Continue
As the Vegas Loop continues construction under the tourist corridor, Elon Musk’s operation has reported at least 67 trespassing incidents since 2022. They range from a photographer to a skateboarder and — you saw this coming — a couple sleeping in the tunnels. If that wasn’t enough, more than 20 cars have followed the Teslas through gates into the unauthorized underground areas 😳 [Fortune]
- Meanwhile, Tesla unveiled a new self-driving, AI-powered “Cybercab” to mixed reviews with little mention of incorporating the vehicles into the Vegas Loop. [Reuters]
- We’ve been following the progress of the project, including safety violations and workplace complaints. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
🚗 Towing Turns Deadly
If you’ve ever had your car towed, you know tracking it down and getting it back can get heated — and in one recent case, it turned deadly. A man was picking up his car from a Boulder Highway tow yard when a fight broke out. He was shot and killed by an employee who was detained by police. [KSNV]
🗳️ Trump vs. Obama, a Battles of Exes in Nevada
You may have noticed: Nevada could swing this whole election. Donald Trump, the current betting favorite, was in North Las Vegas on Saturday, appearing at a roundtable for Hispanic voters. (“Tengo conceptos de un plan!”) Another former president, Barack Obama will campaign in Las Vegas on behalf of Kamala Harris on October 19, the first day of early voting. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
- Chances are good you’ve received a mail ballot by now. We’ve debunked some of the myths connected to mail-in voting. [Hey Las Vegas ✍️]
