🍔 Why the Sphere is like McDonald’s
October 16, 2024 · Rob Kachelriess

We’re less than three weeks from the election — and that feeling of dread and anxiety will only fester until November 5. Mail ballots are already being sent out and early voting begins — yikes — on Saturday 😳
We’re doing our best to keep you informed. So scroll down to read a guide explaining this year’s ballot questions in the simplest language possible 👇
Plus: City Cast Las Vegas co-hosts Sarah Lohman and Dayvid Figler spoke to the Nevada Independent’s Jon Ralston — one of the best in the business when it comes to Nevada politics — about something few of us think much about: judicial races. It’s actually a fascinating conversation. Really. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

What's CITY Talking About?

🌍 Sphere II: Sphere Harder
Ever since the Sphere opened in Vegas, one question has lingered: Will they ever make another one of these things? Well, it’s official: the next Sphere will open in Abu Dhabi. We’re not sure when, but it will be similar in scale to the original. It’s also something of a franchise deal — you know, like McDonald’s 🍔 — with the United Arab Emirates investing in the construction while licensing technology and content. [Sphere Entertainment]
🏈 Inflated Price?
Well, we need a good quarterback. It would just be nice if this guy wasn’t retired. NFL owners approved Tom Brady’s bid to buy a 5% stake of the Raiders, which makes things weird since he already clocks into work as an NFL announcer. [Sports Illustrated]
- The Raiders have ballooned in value to $6.7 billion. The main reason? Allegiant Stadium. [LVSportsBiz.com]
- Meanwhile, one of the team’s best players, Davante Adams, was traded to the Jets 😿 [USA Today]
🔫 Suit Threatened Over Trump 'Assassination Attempt'
An armed Las Vegas man arrested and released outside Donald Trump’s Coachella Bus Festival is planning a “massive lawsuit” against Riverside County after the sheriff called the incident an “assassination attempt.” Vem Miller says he’s a “staunch Trump supporter.” Just don’t ask about that extra passport. ☄️ A comet was visible by the naked eye over the weekend 👀

This is what Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) looked like above Red Rock Canyon on Sunday. Known to friends as Comet A3, it last passed the Earth 80,000 years ago and while it appears close, is still about 44 million miles away. You may be able to see the comet after sunset this week if you look to the west, especially if you’re using binoculars or your phone camera in night mode.
