What's CITY Talking About?

🛎️ Goodbye Delano, Hello W
That spare hotel tower at Mandalay Bay will be known as W Las Vegas by the end of the year. It’s currently the Delano — and before that, had the truly awful name of THEhotel 🤮 Judging by the above rendering, the exterior won’t change much. The W had a presence in Vegas a few years back when it occupied a tower at the Sahara while it was briefly the SLS. (All these initials are making me dizzy.) The rebranding is based on a partnership between MGM Resorts and Marriott International. [Marriott]
❤️ R.I.P. Finn
Our condolences to the Las Vegas Aviators, whose bat dog Finn died after nine years with the team. He was a good boy. [KVVU]
🗳️ Republicans Outpace Democrats in Early Voting
It’s two weeks until Election Day. Don’t panic. Just vote. You’ve got plenty of time. Early voting began Saturday and continues through Nov. 1. On day one, 53% of statewide ballots were cast by registered Republicans, compared to 28% by Democrats. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
- For the second time this year, a federal judge dismissed a Republican lawsuit challenging Nevada’s maintenance of voter rolls. [Nevada Independent]
⛺ How to Handle Homelessness?
Remember yesterday, when we were all a full day younger? City Cast Las Vegas ran an in-depth interview with Shelley Berkley on homelessness — a problem that resonates deeply in Las Vegas. Today, we give her opponent in the mayor’s race a turn to tackle the issue. So listen in as City Cast co-host Dayvid Figler interviews Victoria Seaman about her plans if elected to the city’s top office. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

☝️ Reminder: 70% of Nevadans live in Clark County, which could make Las Vegas the most pivotal metropolitan area in determining the outcome in a swing state. The New York Times suggests “What Happens in Vegas Could Decide the Election,” based on a rising cost of living, homes, and rent.
Two weeks, folks.
